The Connection at St Martin-in-the-Fields
Helping homeless people to make lasting changes in their lives
The Connection at St Martin’s is based in central London and works with homeless people and those in insecure accommodation. The Connection aims to help people make the transition from the streets into employment or training and accommodation.
The Connection’s day centre in Trafalgar Square is open throughout the year, and each year over 5,500 people access its services (including showers, laundry and café). As well as running the day centre, The Connection provides outreach for rough sleepers, an emergency night centre, specialist housing advice and support, IT training and vocational guidance.
The Anglo American Group has been supporting the charity in various ways since 2003. In addition to providing financial contributions towards running costs for the day centre, the Foundation also made a donation towards the St Martin’s Renewal project, helping to pay for the IT suite in the new day centre building.
A Foundation grant has helped to fund the work of a new Vocational Trainer for ‘Workspace’, the programme’s employment, training and education facility. Each year the Workspace team gives vocational guidance and IT training to over 700 homeless people to help them find work.
Most recently the foundation provided support for the provision of hot meals for homeless clients. This vital donation will ensure that The Connection can continue to provide nutritious, fresh food to some of the most vulnerable people in central London.
The Connection also receives valuable employee engagement support from the Anglo American Group. As well as taking part in fundraising events on behalf of The Connection, company employees act as volunteer advisors during CV and interview skills workshops. Company employees also help out in the cafeteria, providing food for homeless clients
The Connection looks forward to maintaining its relationship with the Anglo American Group Foundation. This will help ensure that thousands of London’s homeless people can continue to receive life-changing services.
